New Project

Two thirds through the month of September and the garden work is coming to an end. That means we need a new project.

The area in the northeast corner of our yard is where we hide the burn barrel.  We planted five arborvitae in a slight arc to hide the barrel from the rest of the yard.  It works well except for the fact that we planted the arborvitae too close together.  That is something we always do.  One of these days we will remember that plants GROW.

We have been spending a couple of hours each morning this week to dig up roots, weed and level the ground.

This photo shows the progress along the north side of the area. The end of the stone at the top left of the photo shows how far we plan on extending the gravel. The finished area will be about twelve foot by twelve foot (or maybe larger) although it more of a triangular shape. Or maybe I should say it is a square with one corner cut off.  After all it isn't a science project, just a way to improve the appearance of our property.

The third photo shows the view of our handiwork when facing east. We will lay landscaping cloth under all of the drainage stone except for around the burn barrel. There will be a large square section around the barrel that will be covered only by stones. Hope to soon post a "project completed" photo.

Added this photo after completing another section.  We have finally reached the burn barrel which means we are at the halfway point.
