Finally the days are a bit cooler and less humid. This welcome change is to last for at least a week. Of course the weather channel changes their predictions daily and sometimes hourly. We are thankful for each nice day.
The rain barrels are almost empty so we still are hoping for some rain. We refuse to use our well water for the garden so Terry has now placed a five gallon bucket in the kitchen in order to reuse dish water.
Now that the cucumber and carrot beds are empty there is less demand for water. We are very thankful for the twenty containers of cucumber salad and the twenty seven packets of carrots in the freezer. We won't starve this winter. The green bean plants are almost ready to show their blossoms and we hope to have a number of packets of green beans ready for winter in another few weeks.
Now if those watermelons would ripen!
Terry was having a lot of shoulder pain when using his Troy-Bilt riding mower due to the position of the reverse lever. To avoid the problem he used the hand mower to "cut out" areas of the yard so he could avoid as much pain as possible by not having to back up as often. Of course the walking with the hand mower made breathing difficult especially with our humidity. After suffering for too many years, he researched mowers and found one that would allow him to, once again enjoy mowing the grass. His new Cub Cadet has cut his hand mowing down to fifteen minutes since he can now use the riding mower everywhere except for a few tight spots. The cutting width of the new mower is about twelve inches wider and that has cut his mowing time almost in half. Now he is upset because with our dry weather, he can't mow as often as he would like.
