We have enjoyed several days of nice weather and the flower beds are beginning to show signs of the beautiful flowers to come. My favorite Fern-leafed Peony has buds that will soon open. This plant is one of two that I have from the original plant that my Grandma Wolfe got from a neighbor in the early 1920s, The red flowers resemble an old-fashioned single rose when they bloom.
The rhubarb plants have begun to grow and we are delighted to see that most look healthy. George, Rudy, Harold, Daisy, Fanny and Joshua all look good but Scarlett and Georgette don't look as healthy. We are hoping they are just slow to sprout this year. Willis is still very small and may never grow into a full size plant. Sadly Georgine died at the end of the season last year. We may replace her with a new plant. It depends if the Covid-19 pandemic will end in time to be able to find plants. Pennsylvania residents have been given a "stay-at-home" order and are supposed to be observing a self-quarantine. We are to leave home only for food, prescriptions or emergencies. We have been in town only twice in the past three weeks and practice social distancing.
