It is the end of April and our efforts are paying off. The rhubarb is growing and very soon, some plants will have stems long enough to cut. I think Terry has been measuring them so he can have rhubarb as soon as possible. By the way, the plants shown are (left to right) Scarlet and George. The stone blocks in the photo were going to be used to enlarge the rhubarb bed but will now be used to make a flower bed around the tree stump in the front of the house. We will find other places for the additional rhubarb plants we are adding this year.
Last year, Terry built our fire pit and we needed seating so we bought some heavy-duty plastic benches. Each bench will convert into one half of a picnic table. How is that for versatility? The real reason for this photo is Terry's beloved lilac bush. This is the first year it has bloomed so profusely. Now he wants to plant a few more in the yard.
In December of 2014, our sun room was finished. One of our current projects is to complete a perennial bed the length of the room. We love spring flowers because by the end of winter, we need that burst of color. Shown here are the white bleeding hearts and my favorite, miniature yellow irises. The irises were bought by my Aunt Millicent when she lived in Tennessee. She gave me some when she moved and I think of her every time I see them. The neatest attribute of these irises is that they bloom twice each year. Once in the spring and again in the fall. The small plant in the center is a dwarf butterfly bush which is supposed to mature at only three feet in height.
As you can see, we are making progress but still have a lot of planning and work to do.. Our next post will be in May and you will be surprised at what Terry has been doing in our sun room. For the past two summers, the sun room has been his workshop. Stay tuned.......

Everything is looking great!
ReplyDeleteThanks. We had five yards of topsoil dumped on our driveway this morning. That should keep us busy for a while. I had better get a tube of Ben-Gay.
