Spring has arrived and we are getting ready for our gardening season. We had a fairly warm winter with very little snow. Terry didn't have to start the snow blower even once.
The temperatures this Spring have been pretty mild too but we are still cautious. Most of the garden beds have been weeded and we are thankful that very few of those aggressive weeds from last year showed up in our yard this Spring.
So far this April we have eaten asparagus four times and have seven packets in the freezer. The asparagus has been growing taller much more quickly which may be because of the warmer weather. The above photo shows Friday's crop ready to process.
So far the only discouraging part of the pre-garden time is the lack of germination of the seeds we planted. We usually plant seeds in trays on our basement potting table and when they sprout, we turn on the grow lights. Most years we have been able to grow healthy and sturdy plants. This year we will be buying our tomato and pepper plants at Country View. If that is the worst problem this season, we will be happy.
