Last summer we noticed a tiny Rhubarb plant growing in the middle of a garden walkway. The poor little plant would have gotten trampled so we dug it out and planted it in a pot. Seeing a new Rhubarb plant start from seed was a first for us. We decided to allow at least one of the Rhubarb seed pods to mature and see if we could start a few new plants. After the pod dried, we harvested seeds and planted them in pots.
The baby plants grew in their pots in our sun room all winter. We found that Rhubarb is a very slow growing plant. Today we transplanted them to the raised garden bed next to the garage. This will be their new home and hopefully this new trial will not turn out to be an error. As soon as we are sure they will survive, they will be given names. They will then join our Rhubarb family along with Joshua, Daisy, Fanny, Willis, Rudy, George, Harold, Georgette and Scarlett.
