End of Season is Close

The gardening season is coming to an end. The Butternut Squash grew exceptionally well this year but had a difficult time staying in their assigned raised bed.  The bed is four foot by sixteen foot but as you can see the squash liked to wander beyond the bed.  There are new blossoms on the vines that have no chance to produce any full grown squash this late in the season. The  three plants are doing their best to feed us.

The squash bed is at the lower right of photo.  One vine has traveled north past the carrot and zucchini bed and past the cinder block  asparagus bed. I am not sure where or how far it expects to travel but the fence will stop its wandering adventure. This year we will probably have more than  two dozen squash.
The raised bed on the left is the third crop of green beans for this season.  They were planted in order to freeze some green beans for Rebecca.  We already have enough in the freezer to last until next year.

Half of one of our two watermelons that we grew this year.  We may have gotten the melons into the garden too late for a good crop.  We lost all of the cantaloupes which was sad because we were looking forward to enjoying them as an afternoon snack. At least we got two watermelons and the above photo shows the last half of our second melon. Sorry but we were so excited about the first melon that we ate it before I thought to take a photo. Most of our crops did well this season.  Gardening is always Trial and Error.
