June has arrived

After removing the twenty-five plus year old Hydrangeas from the back of the house, we have decided to make an area for sitting and enjoying the warm evenings. Two new Hydrangeas were planted and we began mulching the area.  As we plant more shrubs, we will post photos.

The cucumbers are beginning to grow in the one twelve foot bed.  They have to share space with four cabbage plants for a while.  The one asparagus bed in the background has finished producing for this season and  two tomato plants are sharing the unused end of the asparagus bed.  The greenhouse buckets are very helpful by protecting tender plants during storms and chilly nights.

The Butternut Squash has begun to spread and we are hoping for a good crop.  We only have a few packs  of squash in the freezer from last year. The green beans have sprouted and we may plant more in a few weeks. Next week we will be planting zucchini, watermelon, and possibly pumpkins.  We don't have unlimited space and we like to try new crops.  This year we have seven tomato plants and hope to be able to can plenty of tomato sauce.
