Do you remember our "redneck" cages that Terry made to keep the birds from snipping off the Marigolds? Well, they worked! The birds had been snipping the Marigolds almost to the ground but the cages stopped that habit and allowed the flowers to grow in peace.
We took off the cages and the plants look healthy and are growing nicely. The tall Marigolds in the center, around the stump are about eighteen inches tall and the short Marigolds are about six or seven inches tall. Terry replaced the bird feeders and everyone is happy.
We are pleased with the garden so far this year. A little trouble with something nibbling on some of the green bean plants but not too serious - yet. The vegetables are looking good and we have picked our first cucumber today and last evening I picked a quart of green beans. The strawberries, asparagus, broccoli and snow peas are finished but the next crops are starting to ripen. Tomorrow Terry will run the rototiller through the now empty broccoli bed and we will add fertilizer. Pretty sure Terry wants to plant MORE green beans. I will save space for a zucchini plant.
